Couples Counseling

Updated: Mar 28, 2021

The foundation of relationships is attachment. We all learn how to relate to others based on our history: what was modeled for us while growing up and what we experienced during our development as a child, adolescent and adult. Problems in relationships are based in patterns that don't match and faulty communication pattern in which couples get "stuck."

Learning how these patterns inflame emotions and cause stress-related reactions keeps people from the emotional connection and security that they crave. Elements of passion, companionship and commitment are also basic to relationships. Finding how these work and developing ways to meet each others' needs while maintaining your own personal integrity is essential to the development of a mature, strong relationship. Therapy can be of great help in creating new ways of perceiving problems and finding underlying ways to collaborate and connect.
